About Me

D. Steven WhiteI’m a professor of marketing & international business at the Charlton College of Business, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. My degrees are from Cleveland State University (DBA, 1996; MBA, 1991) and Bowling Green State University (MA, 1987; BSBA, 1985) with coursework completed through intermediate-level Portuguese at the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth (2004-2005). My doctorate is in business administration with a major in marketing and a minor in information systems.

My research interests include green business, social media marketing, mobile marketing, international marketing, services marketing, global and social entrepreneurship, international business, global e-commerce, open source applications in global business and international business education. Academic journals in which my research has appeared include International Marketing Review, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Services Marketing, Thunderbird International Business Review, Journal of Marketing Management (U.K.), Journal of Marketing Education and International Business Review. Currently, I teach undergraduate courses in advertising, social media marketing, marketing research and international marketing and graduate courses in interactive marketing, marketing research and international business.

I’m an active business consultant (Garcia Digital Marketing) specializing in social media marketing, inbound marketing, mobile marketing, integrated marketing communications, marketing research and strategic marketing. In addition to writing this blog, I serve as the SMM Research columnist for Social Media Marketing (SMM) Magazine.

Prior to entering academia I was the vice president of an advertising agency, promoted sporting and special events, managed outdoor sporting goods stores/ski shops and served as an alpine ski instructor.
